교회 AI 정책? 한 장으로 | 『목회자의 AI 실무 매뉴얼 1권』 4회 · Church AI Policy: Write It on One Page
How to write a one-page church AI use policy: five sections (purpose, allowed, prohibited, review, owner), formal adoption, and one place to post it.

ENGLISH VERSION
Church AI Policy: Write It on One Page
The associate pastor uses AI this much, the staff coordinator that much, and the Sunday school teachers in yet another way. If everyone draws their own line, the church has no line at all. Chapter 3, on writing a church AI use policy, starts from this situation. What this chapter produces is not an explanation. It is a single page that the church adopts and posts (p.68).
Point 1. The loosest line becomes the real standard
The author says that a line one person draws cannot become the church's line. When several people each draw their own, the loosest one becomes the actual standard (p.69). These calls are usually made right before the church bulletin deadline, or late at night after coming home from pastoral visits (p.68~69). So this one document has to come from a decision of the church. One person can write the draft, but one person cannot adopt it (p.69).
Point 2. A church AI guideline has five sections and fits on one page
The five sections are purpose, allowed, prohibited, review, and person responsible (p.71). In the purpose section, you copy the one sentence you wrote in Chapter 1 exactly as it is, without polishing it (p.70). You don't write the prohibited section from scratch either. You copy over the prohibited lines from Chapter 2. If you rewrite them, the wording changes, and if you rewrite them more narrowly, they end up looser than the originals (p.72). In the review section, you don't write a promise like "We will check." You write down where exactly you stop (p.72). Of the five sections, only one has nowhere to copy from: the person responsible. The author warns that if this section is left blank, nobody will open the document once it is posted (p.71, p.73). Keep the whole thing to one page (p.74).
Point 3. Adopt it, and post it in one place
Adopt it wherever your church makes its other decisions, whether that is the session (the board of elders) or a steering committee. Write down the date it was adopted, too. A document without a date can't be told apart from a draft (p.75). Post it where the people who use these tools actually work, and only in one of those places. If you post it in several places, one copy gets left behind when you revise it and becomes a different standard (p.76).
The legal side needs a word as well. The author says up front that no lawyer or privacy expert reviewed the book. Four issues are marked only as "places to check": whether the church counts as a personal information handler, sensitive information, sharing data with third parties, and transferring data overseas. The book states plainly that this is not a legal judgment (p.77~78). This post is not legal advice either.
"Having this document does not make your church legally safe." (The Pastor's Practical AI Manual, Vol. 1 (목회자의 AI 실무 매뉴얼 1권) p.78)
Reading it again alongside recent news
At its 111th General Assembly, the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea (PROK) passed a motion from its Digital Committee to prepare "ethical standards for AI in ministry." As more people use AI for sermons and teaching materials, the denomination reportedly wants standards that cover source verification, copyright, and privacy protection.

Whatever standards the denomination produces, the one page this book talks about carries your own church's name, its adoption date, and the person responsible (p.73~75). The denomination won't fill in those sections for you.
One thing to try today
Look up the date of your next session or steering committee meeting, and decide whether to put this document on the agenda. Jot down a name or two for the person-responsible section as well. The book says it is up to each church to decide whether that is the session, the senior pastor, or the administrative staff coordinator (p.73).
Frequently asked questions
If our church has an AI use policy, are we legally covered?
The book says clearly that you are not (p.78). The four issues are only places to check, and it advises asking an expert when needed (p.77~78).
Can we just use another church's example as is?
The book says to look at examples only for their format, because otherwise another church's sentences could end up on your wall under your church's name (p.75).
